Brief: We gained planning permission for this project of 28 contemporary apartments in June 2022. The project, with joint applicants Palady Homes and government department Homes England, is part of a wider initiative dedicated to ensuring more affordable homes in areas of greatest need. The 4-storey brick building will occupy the prominent old Magistrates Court site, centrally located next to Newbury police station. Of the 28 one and two bedroom apartments built, most will be affordable homes.
Outcome: We incorporated as many sustainability features as possible, the result of which means this project is currently the most sustainable build to date in Newbury. The contemporary style aims to bring a more modern look to Newbury as part of its forward thinking sustainability agenda. The sustainable features include heat pumps, 156m2 photovoltaic panels, high spec insulation, the latest glazing technologies, a green-roofed bicycle store and ecology intensive planting.
